Many people go camping but don’t really know what to do after they set up their tent and build a fire. So, I’ve compiled a small list of fun activities that you can do while in the backcountry. I will be adding more to this list.
Roast marshmallows or wieners – The best sticks for roasting are about 1 metre (3 ft) long, thin (a little thicker than a pen) and cleaned off at the end (burnt or cleared off with a knife)
Tell jokes/stories – What’s the difference between a hunter and a fisherman? A hunter lies in wait. A fisherman waits and lies.
Sing songs – This is the song that never ends. It goes on and on my friends…
Play an instrument
Play cards – Crazy Eights, Go Fish, 21, etc.
Take nature photos
Listen to the sounds of nature
Go fishing – Wait and lie!
Pick wild berries – Be sure to research which kinds of berries are safe to eat.
Skip rocks – The best rocks are thin, flat stones that are about the size of your palm.
Cook over the fire – Or in the hot coals.
Gunwale Bobbing – One person stands on on the gunwale at the bow and another stands on the gunwale at the stern. Now, bob up and down. The first to fall off, loses.
